There's a lot to like about having onions already growing while next year's vegetable plot is only just getting started. 'Element' is a very early Japanese overwintering onion, bred to grow through the shorter days of winter before getting away quickly as conditions improve.

It develops uniform, round bulbs with crisp flesh and an excellent flavour, giving you a really useful kitchen onion for salads, roasting, frying and everyday cooking. With the earliest bulbs ready from late spring, you can be harvesting 'Element' well ahead of many maincrop onions.

It also has good tolerance to bolting, which is particularly useful in an overwintering onion. Plant your seedlings out and let them establish, ready to put on stronger growth as the days lengthen and develop into a tasty early crop.
