Prunus 'Kanzan', also known as 'Kwanzan' or 'Sekiyama', is one of the best-known Japanese flowering cherries, loved for its spectacular display of rich pink, double flowers that cover the branches in late spring. Coppery-bronze young leaves create a beautiful contrast with the blossom before maturing to deep green through summer and taking on warm bronze-orange tones in autumn.

'Kanzan' develops from a strong, upright form when young to a broader, spreading shape with age. It makes a magnificent specimen tree in a lawn, large border or open garden, where there's plenty of room for its canopy to develop. Fully hardy and awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit, it's a classic flowering cherry that brings impressive colour and structure to the garden across the seasons.

Supplied as a bare-root tree, grafted onto Colt rootstock. 'Kanzan' is grafted at ground level, so it has a few upright stems or branches growing from low down rather than a clear stem. This low-branched form is upright when young, becoming broader and more spreading as the tree matures.
