Berberine HCL by Zorex
Berberine is an alkaloid extract from various plants (barberry,
tree turmeric, Oregon-grape, goldenseal, yellowroot, Amur cork tree, Chinese goldthread, prickly poppy, and Californian poppy). Berberine is used for it's anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory attributes. It may support heart health, lower cholesterol levels and weight loss.Berberine is an alkaloid extract from various plants (barberry,
Each capsule contains 500 milligrams of Berberine HCl (the form that was used in published peer reviewed studies).
Clinical Considerations: Although Berberine is well known for its natural antibiotic function and for its ability to relieve fever, it is also
excellent adjunctive therapy for Type II Diabetes. In one study (Metabolism, 2008 May;57(5) 712-7) 36 adults with newly diagnosed Type II Diabetes were randomly selected to take either Berberine HCl or Metformin (500 Mg of either TID) for three months. In the Berberine group the average fasting blood sugar dropped from 191 to 124 and the average post-prandial blood sugar dropped from 356 to 199. A1C dropped from 9.5 to 7.5. The authors concluded that “Berberine is a potent oral hypoglycemic agent with beneficial effects on lipid metabolism”. The second study in the same publication involved 48 patients under treatment for Type II Diabetes with diet and one or more pharmaceutical agents. With this intervention the patients were still poorly controlled. After just seven days on Berberine the average fasting glucose dropped from 172 to 140 and the post-prandial glucose dropped from 266 to 210 with A1c dropping from 8.1 to 7.3. Again, the researchers concluded that although Berberine caused some transient gastrointestinal problems (gas, loose stool and/or constipation) in some patients, it is safe and the cost of treatment with Berberine is low. Consideration should be given to using Berberine with GlucoBalance at 2-3 capsules TID.
